2002, a good year!
Available in 2004, the new CB/EMV/DDA bankcard is seen as an e-payment milestone.

Yves Randoux, CEO Cartes Bancaires, and Jean-Paul Jainsky, Director of Sagem’s Security Division, at the signing of the development contract for the new DDA card.
In mid-January, the French electronics group, Sagem, won the international call for tender launched by Cartes Bancaires for the development of the new generation of CB/EMV/DDA bankcards.
“The development of this new generation of cards will not only be one of the best product offerings available on the market, but one which will also permit CB member banks to meet the future challenges of the continually evolving European payment markets”,explained Cartes Bancaires’ CEO Yves Randoux. Sagem is intent on applying all their expertise to this development, in particular, “their solid experience in producing mask software, cryptographic systems and e-payment applications”, indicated Jean-Paul Jainsky, Director of Sagem’s Security Division.
In compliance with the international EMV (Europay Mastercard Visa) specifications, the CB/EMV/DDA card will have additional encryption systems that will further enhance the security of the CB system. The new microchip will contain a DDA (Dynamic Data Authentication) encryption processor making each transaction unique. In this operation mode, the authentication data is supplied to the payment terminal by the card itself.
In addition to the basic functions, the CB/EMV/DDA smart card will be well positioned to provide new services to both cardholders and retailers (loyalty programmes, e-signature, e-ticketing, etc.).
Another advantage of this new card is that it’s fully compatible with the latest generation of electronic payment terminals (CB5.2 standard) integrating the DDA function. The CB/EMV/DDA card will enter the field pilot phase (with cardholders) at the start of 2004. It will then be gradually deployed starting in mid-2004.
