2002, a good year!
With a total of 40 million transactions on the two Saturdays, 7 and 14 December 2002 (up 10% compared with the same period a year earlier), there was a record in the offing: that of the number of CB transactions in a single day. On Saturday, 21 December, the record was beaten with 25 million card transactions recorded (twice as many as on a normal day). Retail purchases and ATM withdrawals accounted for 85% and 15% of the total, respectively.
