EMV, pilot tests build up steam
2002, a good year!
These images offer a brief overview of EMV pilot tests in progress (cards, EFTPOS terminals and ATMs).

  EFTPOS: sights on CB5.2
The first mixed CB-B0'/EMV CB5.2 pilot tests started up in January 2002. Hardware was tested with B0’ cards, foreign EMV cards and mixed CB-B0'/EMV cards.
Today, several pilot tests are underway involving five banks, eight terminal manufacturers and several dozen retailers. By mid-2004, all EFTPOS terminals must comply with the CB5.2 standard.

  ATMs switch to EMV
Starting last February, the first pilot test got underway at the Crédit Agricole. Other banks are preparing to implement their first pilot tests in the second quarter of 2003. Migration of the 38,975 ATMs to EMV will be complete by mid-2004.

  CB cards: more and more
CB-B0’/EMV tests

CB -B0’/EMV cards issued by Société Générale and Crédit Mutuel have been field-tested since the fourth quarter of 2002. All banks will launch similar pilot tests in the first half of 2003. The first mixed CB-B0’/EMV cards will start to be issued in April, then generalised from October 2003 onwards, with the planned completion date for the migration set at 1 November 2005.
