The Réseau des Cartes Bancaires (RCB) or "CB
bankcard network" is not widely known. Yet, this interbanking
tool managed by Cartes Bancaires is at the heart of the CB system,
as it transports and conveys the authorisation requests for ATM withdrawals
and CB card payments (above a certain amount). On average, it takes
the RCB less than 2 seconds to process an authorisation request;
a real race against time because in those 2 seconds, the data
on the smart bankcard travels through one of the RCB's 80 banking
interfaces and through the IT processing centre of the bank which
issued the card before making its way back via the same route to the
retailer's terminal or to the ATM...
In 2002, the RCB handled over 1.7 billion transactions (up 16% over 2001).
In the near future, the RCB will be replaced by the RSB (Réseau
de Services aux Banques or CB Bank Services Network), which has been
designed to handle up to 10 billion transactions a year... |
