A new framework for work and dialogue, stronger synergies
and a more inclusive approach to all parties' interests... the agreement
signed last July by Cartes Bancaires and some 30 electronic
payment manufacturers and professionals (see CB MAG n°19)
is a major event, one which will pave the way for a new era of consultation
and partnership.
It reflects the commitment of the CB system stakeholders to confront
together the scope of the changes in electronic payment, nationally
and internationally, to meet customer's service expectations (local
and distance payments, and cash withdrawals), and to make card payment
transactions and cash withdrawal even more secure.
In concrete terms, this protocol sets out the main electronic payment
priorities for the short and medium-term: the deployment of CB5.2,
and tightening security (cards, terminals, networks, and ATMs), in
liaison with the French central bank Banque de France. Research and
development into new products, new techniques and testing new projects
will also form part of the close discussions taking into account the
expectations of representative retail associations. This agreement
will be applied and monitored by a committee of banks and manufacturers
combining representatives of Cartes Bancaires, banking establishments
and the electronic payment industry.
This committee, which held its inaugural meeting on 2nd October 2003,
will meet periodically to define the main directions to be adopted,
and to prepare the associated communications actions. It relies on
specific working groups. The two main areas of work for these working
groups are migration to EMV and security. |
