In the health sector, bankcard payments are progressing apace with the rate health professionals are adopting Eftpos terminals.

Last year, total household expenditure (all sectors combined) was, according to French Statistics-INSEE, 800 billion euros, of which 166 billion was paid for using CB bankcards, or 20% of this expenditure.
This inroad by CB bankcards reflects the increase in the number of health professionals who have acquired payment terminals that accept the CB bankcard. Viewed in detail, the situation reveals certain discrepancies, as only 13% of doctors and 23% of dentists are equipped with Eftpos terminals, compared with 70% of pathology labs and all pharmacies. In these four sectors, household expenditure totalled 62 billion euros in 2002, of which 3.55 billion, or 6% was settled by CB bank card.
