Online commerce
Online buyers appreciate the flexibility of e-commerce, the possibility of comparing prices, and the time-savings…

As amazing as it may seem, price or the range of choice offered by merchant sites are not the main criteria for a majority of Internet buyers. Only 36% systematically take price into account, and just 31% focus on the range of choice. In fact, it is "practicality" and "ease" that are the criteria most often quoted. The possibility of comparing offerings received 66% of Net users' votes, while the time-savings provided by on-line buying scored 60% of votes. When Net users who are not yet Net buyers are asked what would be the main reason that would prompt them to make an online purchase, 61% responded with opening hour flexibility; next followed time-savings (55% of answers), then the possibility of finding unusual products not available to them locally (49%).

Source: "L'Internaute/Benchmark Group", an online survey carried out in March 2003 on a sample of 1,147 Net users, of whom 75.5% are cyber-consumers.
