On 10th September 2003, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) adopted the Embedded FINREAD standard.

The Embedded FINREAD standard - a secure payment system for mobile phones, personal electronic assistants and set top boxes - was adopted in Brussels on 10 September 2003 by the CEN (European Committee for Standardisation).
This approval, in the form of a CWA ("CEN Workshop Agreement") now provides manufacturers with a standard enabling them to develop new embedded payment equipment that complies with the security requirements of the international banking community. This decision comes in the wake of FINREAD's approval in July 2001. Moreover, on 30 October 2003, the CEN will in all likelihood adopt an update of the FINREAD standard incorporating upgrades made over the past two years under the Trusted FINREAD Project, which was successfully completed on 30th September 2003.
