The forum on 15th October 2003 in Brussels.
"Which bankcard system for Europe?" This was the essential question for the creation of a Payment Europe that participants attempted to answer at a discussion forum organised by Confrontations Europe and Cartes Bancaires CB on 15th October 2003 in Brussels at the European Parliament.
All speakers (Heads of European institutions and Cartes Bancaires) came to the same conclusion: cards, which account for one quarter of all scriptural transactions in Europe, will be the prime method of payment within a decade. Given this situation, three main requirements were highlighted: improve instruments for combating fraud, further harmonise standards and regulations, and introduce a European legislation framework.
