| Pharmacie du Docteur Lafay: in the center, Michel
Damien, pharmacist. |
 |
| For the past six months, the Pharmacie du docteur
Lafay in Rue de la Chaussée d'Antin, in Paris's 9th Arrondissement,
has been the site of one of the EMV pilot operations in Paris. "We
accepted the proposal from our bank, BNP, to test an EMV terminal
because we felt that in a district where there are a high number of
tourists, it would be a good idea to migrate to EMV as early as possible,"
explained Michel Damien, an associate pharmacist. "In addition
to our French customers who often use their CB bankcard (around
one quarter of all payments), we have 4 or 5 foreign customers a day,
and some of them want to pay using their bankcard. Our new Eftpos
terminal enables us to read the increasing number of foreign chip
bank cards we see in the pharmacy. |
