CB Cards, better than ever!
Over 30% of cardholders would like to be able to use their card more often in vending machines.
The preferred method of payment by the French, the CB card is now accepted in over one million points of sale. It is used to pay one fourth of household expenditure (800 billion euros in 2002). Each working hour, almost 50 new points of acceptance are installed. While certain areas of activity provide almost universal CB card payment (mass retail, hotels, restaurants, etc.), others, just as important to the country's economy, offer significant growth prospects.
Of the sectors that cardholders would like to see adopt bankcard payment, health professions are the most frequently quoted (69%), according to a recent Sofrès survey (see opposite and Barometer), followed by public services, home deliveries, taxis, vending machines, and so on. The French would like "interest-free staggered payment" of expensive purchases made by card. In all these areas, Cartes Bancaires CB is currently working with banks and manufacturers to define secure solutions adapted to the requirements of each sector.
