The switch to EMV, secure Internet payments… the CB bankcard system is still one step ahead in terms of security.

Cartes Bancaires and the CB banking community overall are constantly seeking ways to ensure optimum security for card payments and to maintain France's lead in the areas of innovation and results (fraud was again down this year with just 0.034% of the total amount of payments made using the CB system).
Two measures currently being implemented will further boost the security of the CB system. The first is the switch to the international EMV standard. Since the end of last year, bankcards issued in France have a new EMV standard microchip, which will be deployed to all bankcards issued in Europe by 2006. The security of the French chips will be further enhanced by the addition of Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA) starting in 2005.
The second area in which Cartes Bancaires is working to improve security is online payments using a cardholder authentication system. Called 3D-Secure, it will be rolled out in the second half of 2003 and should improve the level of consumer trust, and so significantly boost online trade.
