Foreign cards,
be smart!
2003, a record year!
With the rollout of EMV, the number of payments involving foreign smart cards is on the rise in France. Here's what to do when confronted with a foreign bank smart card.

  Request for payment
by card
The retailer enters the purchase amount, presses the green Enter button, and then inserts the smart card in the reader.

  Choice of language and
PIN entry
The card is recognised: the retailer must ask the customer to choose from the languages offered, and then enter his or her PIN, and press Enter.
NB: a PIN is not used with all foreign cards.

  Payment accepted
After calling the authorisation centre, the payment is accepted.

  Customer receipt
The customer must sign the Eftpos receipt if no PIN was used or if the amount exceeds 800 uros. Give the customer his or her copy of the Eftpos receipt.
