EMV's rollout is advancing steadily, affording a guarantee of greater security in bankcard transactions. The adoption of the new EMV international standard and its gradual rollout in all European countries will provide a greater level of security for European Union merchants and cardholders. With their microchip and PIN, foreign EMV cards will thus offer the same level of security as French cards. EMV's rollout is gathering speed in France, where it is simply a logical development of existing technology; in the rest of Europe however, EMV is a revolution. By last April, the migration to EMV had been completed for 125,800 CB cards, 6600 ATMs, 4650 Eftpos terminals and 2500 checkouts in leading stores and retail outlets. Back to top of page
