CB cards can report an excellent first year half.
All figures for the first part of the year are up compared with the
end of the previous year. Most notably, international business is
doing very well: the number of international CB cards has risen by
6%, taking the total number of CB cards to 48.6 million.
The CB cardholders are increasingly using their cards for payment
abroad, where the figures speak for themselves: the volume of payments
abroad has topped 42 million (up 18.8%).
Foreign issued cards cardholders also used their cards widely in France
in this year half, with a total number of withdrawals of 11.8 million
(up 10.4%). In all, the volume of bankcard payments in CB system and
abroad totaled 104.7 billion euros in the first year half of
2004, representing an increase of 7.2 %.
For the same period, the volume of withdrawals rose 4.6% to 39.9 billion
euros. In short, payments and withdrawals combined represented 144.6 billion
euros, an increase of 6.5%.
At the same time as the number of CB bankcards in circulation is growing,
the number of ATMs (almost 43,000) is also increasing (up 10.8%). |
