of payment preferred by the French.
The two TNS Sofres* surveys (France and Europe) gauging the image and use of the CB bankcard were published in November. In France, almost 9 out of 10 people aged over 18 have a CB card, 28% even have several. It is therefore no surprise that the CB bankcard is still the means of payment preferred by the French (69%), well ahead of cheques (18%) and cash (13%).
This means of payment, judged secure by a growing percentage (84% up from 80% in 2003), is increasingly used to pay for retail and Internet purchases. The results of the European barometer confirm that the bankcard is also heading towards becoming Europeans' preferred method of payment.

*The French survey was carried out in September 2004 on a sample of 1,105 respondents aged 15 and over (telephone interview), of which 931 bankcard holders aged 18 and over.
The European survey was carried out on a sample of 4,878 respondents in nine countries (France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg and Portugal).

KEY SURVEY FIGURES
Almost 9 out 10 people in France aged 18 and over have a CB card.   92% of cardholders use their card at least once a week for retail purchases.
