Not one, not two, but three records! December 2004 will go down in the history of Cartes Bancaires as the first time a record number of transactions by CB bankcard was beaten three Saturdays in a row: 31 million transactions on Saturday, 4 December, 32 million on Saturday, 11 December, and 34 million on Saturday, 18 December (compared with 25 million for the busiest Saturdays in December 2003). The year's previous record of 30 million transactions was made on Saturday, 5 June, the eve of Mother's Day). This new record is revealing in more ways than one: firstly, consumers did their Christmas shopping earlier in 2004 than in previous years; and secondly, they spread their shopping over the three weekends, even if Saturday is a logical peak in consumer buying.
