While all European countries have begun migrating to EMV, they are not all progressing at the same pace, nor have they achieved the same level of completion. According to data released by the EPC (September 2004), the United Kingdom is leading the way in the Europe of Fifteen (EU15) : 65% of its bankcards, 70% of its Eftpos terminals and 81% of its ATMs have migrated to the new EMV standard. Austria and Denmark have also made significant progress in migrating their bankcards (respectively 57% and 67% of their cards are now EMV standard). At the opposite end of the scale, countries like Ireland, Spain and Portugal are much further behind in their migration. In all, 27% of bankcards, 18% of Eftpos terminals and 31% of ATMs have migrated to EMV within the Europe of Fifteen (EU15).
