The Bobigny Court has started accepting payment of fines by CB bankcard. This is a first in France!

A first in France. On 26th April 2005, the Bobigny Court (Seine-Saint-Denis, Paris region) introduced a CB bankcard payment system for standard fines (traffic infringements, theft, receiving stolen goods, day fines*) and fines payable following expedited cases in which the defendant enters a prior guilty plea. Persons found guilty by the courts can immediately settle their fine using a payment terminal located adjacent to the fine processing office and directly connected to the State Treasury. This pilot trial, due to be reviewed in July, could then be extended to other courts. This experiment falls in line with the Bobigny Public Prosecutor’s Office commitment to promoting the immediate payment of fines.

* Day-fine: fine at x euros a day to be paid at the end of y days or face y days imprisonment.
