Last July, Thierry Breton, French Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industry* announced his desire to "encourage the public sector to increase the use of new methods of payment in his Ministry and local public services. The aim is to develop payment by bank card in canteens, crèches or even at the tax office to make users' everyday lives easier". Eftpos terminals were installed in public services in the Seine Saint-Denis and Sarthe départements between July and September 2005.
