SNCF-French Rail payment kiosksaccept EMV cards. The extension to foreign EMV chip cards has resulted in a significant number of transactions. This year will see 500 new EMV kiosks placed in service (www.sncf.fr).

In 2005, almost 90% of leading brand stores migrated to EMV, that is, a total of 125,000 checkouts. In local shops, 596,000 Eftpos terminals were switched to EMV, that is, 84% of the total. Last year, 70% of withdrawals and 60% of payments were made under the EMV standard.

By summer 2006, the majority of payment kiosks will have migrated to EMV. The significant acceleration in this switchover will mainly affect petrol istribution, transport tickets, goods and services. Card migration will be completed by July.
