Sales of almost 8 billion euros in 2005, that is, a 50% increase over the previous year. Internet sales continued to skyrocket in France in 2005. Over 12 million consumers are now online shoppers.

Quick and reliable.
For Henri de Maublanc, President ACSEL* (French association of online service providers and merchants), this phenomenon is attributable to a combination of several factors. "First of all, customers find what they are looking for: the Internet provides a broader range of products and prices, it’s more practical and is done in real time." These factors then combine with increased payment security. Cheques now account for only 20% of the value of payments for Internet purchases because of the time involved. Bank cards provide an answer to two fundamental consumer concerns: they are quick and reliable. They are now the preferred method of payment of Net users. A new system is attracting online shoppers: Paypal. Payment into a Paypal account by CB card makes it easier to pay for purchases between individuals.
There is increasing trust in online commerce and a rapid growth in the number of highspeed Internet subscribers. "The outlook for 2006 for online sales is excellent", adds Henri de Maublanc, "given the arrival of new products, such as online credit and even car sales".
