| In 2005, CB cards won
over the public service
and medical sectors |

| Interview : Jean-Pierre Buthion |

• Which sectors did the CB bankcard
win over in 2005?
Jean-Pierre Buthion: Last year,
the CB card confirmed its entry into three
sectors: health, public services and taxis.
In the medical sector, as expenses are often
covered by the health fund, the use of a CB
card did not seem justified by health professionals. Now
that reimbursement levels have dropped, it has made inroads
of 7% in hospitals and 18% among doctors and dentists.
• Why has the CB card gained a foothold in public
services and taxis?
The French Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry*
has created a national centre for regional support. It helps
regional services roll out card payment systems for their
services. This has resulted in an increase of almost 50%
in the volume of CB card transactions since 2003. Taxi
drivers mainly see CB card payment as improving their
safety, as it helps reduce the risk of attack and theft.

The aim is to analyse this market, identifythe best practices and what is hindering its growth, and put forward five recommended measures, including the development of purchasing cards to speed up the penetration of e-commerce.
